"God sets the lonel in families" - Psalm 68:6

We are a family of four: James, Kayley, and our two boys, Samuel and Bradley.

In 2019, we made the decision to begin our journey into fostering. We had no idea where that decision would lead us or how much it would shape our family, but we knew it was a step we felt called to take.

This blog is a record of that journey, the joys, the challenges, the lessons we've learned, and the incredible ways we've seen God at work along the way. We hope that by sharing our story, it might encourage others who are considering fostering or simply give an honest glimpse into what family life has looked like for us.

Psalm 68:6 says, "God sets the lonely in families." This verse has always been especially significant to Kayley and has shaped much of how we've lived our lives together.

Over the years, we've seen it lived out in many different ways. We've opened our home to lodgers, both from within our church and beyond. We've been involved in youth work, seeking to create places where young people feel welcomed, known and loved. More recently, that same verse has found its fullest expression in our journey as foster carers.

Looking back, we can see that God was preparing us long before we ever completed our fostering application.

Talking to the boys

Talking to the Boys It had been about eight months since we first decided that we wanted to foster. Since then, our lodger had moved out and, rather than jumping straight into fostering, we had deliberately decided to give ourselves a few months as a family of four. After having someone living with us for so long, we wanted some time to regroup, enjoy having the house to ourselves and have a bit of a break. One thing that was really important to us was that fostering wouldn't just be something that Kayley and I did, with the boys simply tagging along.
